Life Jacket Project!
Make a Difference in Saving Lives
Will you help design life-saving solutions?
We will be dockside July 23-28 asking lobstermen in Maine and Massachusetts to help us with a one-month trial of different life jackets this summer. If you participate, you will be receive a stipend and get to keep the life jacket; more importantly, you will be adding your perspective to redesigning life jackets just for lobstermen.
What will you be doing?
Wear one of the lifejackets in our study for one month and do a brief phone follow-up after one week and again after one month.
What is the goal?
To see if we can come up with a lifejacket that is comfortable and workable and could save the life of anyone who accidentally ended up in the water.
Of all the drowning incidents that have occurred in the lobster fleet, no one has been wearing a life jacket—we want to change that, and we need your help to make it happen.
We are the Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety at 607-547-6023, working in partnership with Fishing Partnership Support Services, and McMillan Offshore Safety Training to see how to help lobstermen stay alive and fishing.
We hope to meet you dockside!
