Ocean Marine Insurance - Point Club Reception

The semi-annual Ocean Marine Insurance-Point Club Reception was held at the New Bedford Whaling Museum on June 9.

Ocean Marine Insurance and the Point Club of Rhode Island were in New Bedford for the Commercial Marine Expo at the State Pier.

The museum turned out to be a great place for the event. There was plenty of room in the main lobby, it was close to the waterfront, and the rest of the museum was kept open for the event. The M & C Café in New Bedford catered the event with gourmet seafoods.

Most prominent of the exhibits were the whale skeletons suspended from the ceiling. Guests ate and talked below the assembled bones of three whales. One a 6 year old blue whale, 66' (right in photo), and an adult, 18 year old Northern Right whale.

The museum also has a complete half size whaling ship in the building, ship parts, whaling equipment, paintings, and various exhibits from what was a major industry in early American maritime history.
