Ropeless Lobster Fishing Under Consideration,
Near-term Use Unlikely

MYSTIC, Conn.—At its April meeting, the New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) continued to consider how to reverse the decline of the North Atlantic right whale population.

Eighteen right whales died over the past year, with 12 of the dead whales found in Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence. No calves have been seen over the past year.
