Feed Makes Salmon Dangerous to Eat

Pollutants in Salmon Targeted

 

It has been reported that Norwegian doctors and experts have warned that toxic pollutants in salmon feed is making farmed salmon unsafe for women and children to eat.

An industry specialist and a physician in Norway have said the contaminants detected in farmed salmon have been seen to have a negative effect on brain development among young people.

Consumption of farmed salmon by women, children and adolescents was said to be associated with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and reduced IQ.

In response to the survey a Norwegian economic policy spokesperson asked the country’s fisheries minister to tell parliament whether Norwegian farned salmon is dangerous to eat for children and pregnant women.

The spokesman acknowledged the claims could have a negative effect on the salmon industry and stressed the importance of a rapid clarification.
