Notice of Closure of the Commercial Porbeagle Shark Fishery

The Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) would like to inform commercial fishermen and dealers that the available quota for porbeagle shark has been harvested and therefore the fishery is closed as of 11:30 PM, September 4, 2010.

It is unlawful to land porbeagle shark in the State of Maine that is in excess of the available quota established by the National Marine Fisheries Service and in accordance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Inter-state Fisheries Management Plan for Atlantic Coastal Sharks and the DMR. The porbeagle fishery will remain closed until the effective date of the final 2011 shark season specifications that will be published in the Federal Register or by further notice.
