6th International Oyster Symposium
October 21–23, Cape Cod, MA
Bringing together representatives from 18 countries and 19 USA states who have linkage to oyster science, industry, and culture for the benefit of humankind and the environment.
Identify. Integrate. Catalyze. Amplify.
• Identify common goals across diverse participants that unify actions toward oyster regeneration.
• Integrate emerging data, policy, and practice for advancing oyster benefits worldwide.
• Catalyze oyster awareness toward ocean preservation, industry growth, and human betterment.
• Amplify cultural innovation and creative ventures that build oyster appreciation, engagement, and support.
The symposium is held to foster an appreciation for and benefits of this hard working ally are growing in many sectors of society, from science to ecology to cuisine and economy. It’s time to join forces and take action now to reinforce the “KEY-stone” between land and sea that helps keep our ocean “standing.” Why? Because in helping oysters, we help the ocean and in doing so, we help ourselves. Oyster literacy is key toward that end. IOS6 is a call to action to regenerate oysters and support oyster aquaculture and their combined benefits worldwide.
The biennial Symposium is being organized and promoted by leaders from the World Oyster Society, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; Marine Biological Laboratory; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; East Coast Shellfish Growers Association, Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association, Massachusetts Aquaculture Association, The Nature Conservancy; Green Harbors Project – UMASS Boston; Cape Cod Cooperative Extension; RDS Partners, AU; Mangez-Moi Oysters, UK; East Dennis Oysters, Waquoit Bay Reserve, Coggs Island Oysters, CN and a growing list of local, national and international enterprises.
The 6th International Oyster Symposium will be held at the Lillie Auditorium, Woods Hole, Sea Crest Beach Hotel, North Falmouth, MA.
