Atlantic Herring Section

Section members from the states of Maine, New Hampshire and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will meet at 10:00 a.m. on April 30, 2015, to discuss “days out” measures for the 2015 Area 1A fishing season from June 1 to September 30. This meeting will take place at the New Hampshire Urban Forestry Center at 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

The 2015 Area 1A sub-annual catch limit is 30,290 metric tons (mt) after adjusting for the 2013 carryover, 3% Herring Research Set-Aside awarded in 2015, and 295 mt fixed gear fishery set-aside. The Section set the seasonal split as 72.8% allocated from June 1–September 30 and 27.2% allocated from October 1–December 31. Fishermen are prohibited from landing more than 2,000 pounds of Atlantic herring harvested from Area 1A until June 1, 2015.

Urchin Meeting
Tentatively May 7, 2015

The neaxt SUZC meeting has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 5pm - and will be hosted at the Maine DOT building at 219 Hogan Road in Bangor. A research subcommittee meeting will be hosted at 3:30pm followed by a meeting of the full council at 5:00pm. An agenda will be provided as the meeting date nears.

The minutes from the April 9, 2015 Sea Urchin Zone Council (SUZC) season setting meeting are now available. The council voted to recommend the following:
Zone 1: 15 days & 12 tote daily limit
Zone 2: 38 days & 7 tote daily limit
Whiting & Dennys' Bays Limited Access Area: 9 days & 7 tote daily limit.

For the specific days and meeting details, please review the meeting minutes attached below. Public hearings will likely be held in May in Zone 1 and 2 with a final season to be approved by the DMR Advisory Council.
