Farrin’s Boat Shop
Restores Two Great Boats
Bruce Farrin had two Jarvis Newman designed boats in his shop in August. One is a 1977 Newman 36' and the other a 1985 Newman 32'. The great design and quality workman ship has made it possible for the new owners to get great boats at considerable savings. Older glass hulls can be restored because the glass lasts said Bruce. After removing 30 years of paint Farrin found the fiberglass in great condition.

The 1977 Newman 36' was the service boat used by Central Maine Power Company to service the islands off the Maine coast. Farrin’s built CMP a new boat and Bruce took the old boat in trade. One of his customers bought the old boat. Bruce redesigned the topsides to the customer’s specifications changing it from a sedan cruiser to its original bass boat design. CMP had re-powered with a 200HP six-cylinder with only 2500 hours so the engine stayed. The boat got two new fuel tanks, and water and holding tanks. It will get new framing and decks. The exterior will be awl gripped. The hardware is going to all bronze and the windows will be teak framed.
The 1985 Newman 32' was originally laid up by Wilbur Yachts in Southwest Harbor. This hull was also in good condition. Bruce removed the V8 engine and replaced it with a straight six 260HP Yanmar. He added two 100-gallon fuel tanks, and 25-gallon water and 12-gallon holding tanks. The teak decks were sanded
and the bright work varnished.
