Capt. Mark East’s Advice to the Careworn, Confused, Lovelorn and Other Outdoor People

Dear Capt. Mark. My sole passion in life is surf fishing. In winters I go to Mexico and summers Cape Cod. Recently I've been reluctantly seeing a poet who has a great way with words but she talks through her nose with a lisp. I'm quite sure she likes me a lot. She says she’d like to learn to fish. Signed, Anxious

Dear Anxious. She sounds like the perfect mate. However, from my sailing days, four wives and counting, the uncomfortability factors soon out- weigh adventure and adrenalin. Love is a two-edged sword, my son, so don't spend too much on her first fishing rod.

Dear Capt. Mark, I was given a pair of 6V53 GM diesels and used them to re-power my 38' CARVER. The wife was always worried about gas, but now with the noise, smoke and smell, she nor anyone else wants to boat with me. I'm becoming a weekend alcoholic just staying at the dock. I can't afford to re-power again. Signed, What To Do

Dear What To Do, Short of starting a dock bar to raise money, you might consider donating the “53's” to a dinosaur museum.
