First Sea Lice Conference in the US to be Held in Portland, ME

January 2014 — Since the original conference 10 years ago the International Sea Lice conference will be held for the first time in the US. The Sea Lice conference will be held at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute on Commercial Street in Portland, Maine. The GOMRI building is also home to the Fish Vet Group, a Scottish corporation that serves as a veterinary consultancy to the global aquaculture industry. Fish Vet Group has operations in the UK, Norway, Thailand and more recently the United States.

Leading researchers from around the world will present sessions and posters on sea lice management. A three-day workshop focusing on sea lice biology and experimental techniques will be given before the conference.

Sea lice have been a major pest problem for fin fish aquaculture facilities in Canada and eastern Maine. The International Sea Lice conference will be held August 31 to September 5, 2014.
