Gouldsboro Farm’s Barn Rebuilt

The united efforts of neighbors, friends, local and distant communities came to fruition in the completed rebuilding of a Gouldsboro barn that burned to the ground on May 7, 2012. Spontaneously the word for help in rebuilding went out and many people responded with donations of labor, money, expertise, equipment and food for those volunteers who cut the boards and drove the nails poured in almost immediately. Under insured, two summer fund-raisers were well attended. The barn was officially completed in September.

Bill and Cynthia Thayer have operated Darthia Farm since 1976. The 150-year-old barn was a complete loss as was all of their animals in the barn that night.

For more than 35 years the Thayer’s have raised organic produce which they sold locally. They also sold farm products at their farm store, at the Common Ground Fair and on the internet. The new barn is up and the Thayers have replaced the lost animals. In particular the Danish draft horses that work the farm and are pictured with Bill and Cynthia above.
