NOTICE OF AGENCY RULE-MAKING ADOPTION

Lobster Trap Tag System

A regulation approved by the DMR Advisory Council last week expands an existing requirement for the use of second zone tags when fishing outside of your declared zone, effective June 1, 2017.

The requirement for the use of a second zone tag is already in place for Zones B and C, and Zones F and G. Beginning June 1, 2017 all lobstermen fishing any gear outside their declared zone will need to affix a second zone tag to those traps. This requirement is intended to improve enforcement of the “49/51” rule, that limits the number of traps a lobsterman may fish outside their declared zone to 49% of the number of tags they purchase.

When purchasing a 2017 license, whether through the online system (LEEDS) or paper application second zone tags can be purchased at a cost of $0.10/tag.
