Chummy’s New Build

Robert “Chummy” Rich, the long-time boatbuilder and boat transportation operator in Bernard, has a got a new build of his own under construction. It’s a 34-foot pleasure cruiser with a traditional plank-on-frame hull and fiberglassed top, for his personal use. Rich sold his business, Bass Harbor Boat, early this year to Rich Helmke, but continues to work there and also work on this project at his brother Walt Rich’s shop. It’s been several years in the making, and has now reached the finishing stage. Rich plans to cruise the New England coast, primarily Maine.
