FOOD SUMMIT SEEKS FISHERMEN AND FISHING BUSINESSES

Washington County’s Community Food Council, a project of Healthy Acadia, is sponsoring the second day-long food summit event in order to provide networking, resources and information that will serve to strengthen the food system in our region. We recognize that a vibrant regional food system can lead to healthier communities. Communities that have strong local food systems can support better and healthier food choices as an easier option for all of its residents.

Our 2014 Summit that was organized by Washington County Community Food Council, the Washington County Council of Governments and Maine Farmland Trust was attended by over 140 residents and was extremely well received. In our effort to reach many more fishermen and fisheries-related businesses for the 2016 Washington County Food Summit, we are hoping to garner support from each of you to help us determine the focus of the breakout sessions and other groups at the summit.

We encourage you to take the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2016SummitPlg. It will only take 3-5 minutes and will be of tremendous help in bringing in speakers based on the stated interests and needs of our community’s producers.

Deadline for completing the survey is October 30 but sooner would be appreciated.

The event will be taking place on Saturday, March 12 (snow date, March 19) at Washington Academy in East Machias.

Thank you all for your help in making this community event pertain more directly to our community’s interests.
